The Week with Mom & Dad

My parents were up to visit last week.  Seemed there was something going on everyday.

Monday - The funeral for my Great Uncle Dick.  He's my Grandmother's brother.  He was a good man.  A quiet man.  Unless he was working on a project in the basement or playing cards.  Then he was an expletive aficionado.  He taught my my first swear word.  My favorite.  The S-word.

Here he is with his sister, who is wearing some kind of flying toy on her head.   Typical.

Tuesday - I had a Lia Sophia party at my house.  It was so much fun for us!  Us being me and Mom.  Drew & Dad went to Buffalo Wild Wings for dinner and trivia during the party.

Wednesday - Drew and I went to see The GuruGanesha Band at the Auburn Public Theater with Theresa.  We've seen them before.  It was a yoga rock concert.  Excellent!

Thursday - Fat Club!  Went pretty good.  I lost 2 pounds.  I'm down 40 pounds.  I think all of it's from my boobs, which I honestly wasn't having a problem with!  Dammit.

Friday - Finally a night off!!!  Mom & I got to make cards.

Here's the five cards we each made. The owl in the buggy is a new design. Mom needed a baby shower card where the theme was owls. The colors are greens & browns.

Isn't it a cutie!

Saturday - Mom & Dad left to go back to Tennessee.  :(  It was a nice visit, what little we seemed to have of it.  Better busy than not, I guess.  We did have some time to watch some British shows.  Mock the Week is a house favorite!

Abingdon Boys School is back!

My fave Japanese rock band is back with a new song.  The lyrics are part English-part Japanese.  I understand zero, but that doesn't stop me from loving it and listening to it over and over again.  When someone puts out the karaoke version of the video I'll check it out and probably memorize it, like I did for their songs Howling and Innocent Sorrow.  Yeah, I even memorized the Japanese lyrics.

Why Japanese Rock?  I like just about all music.  (Exceptions: Gospel, Country w/ Twang, most Gangsta Rap & Hip-Hop, anything by Taylor Swift)  I also appreciate different people & cultures.  (Exceptions:  anyone from Assholetania or Doucheburg or Quebec)  I first heard Abingdon Boys School while watching the anime series Darker Than Black.  They did the title song.  Love it!  So, I looked 'em up and now I'm a fan of all their work.

Treadmill Music Playlist

Monday thru Friday I'm on the treadmill before work for 30 min.  I mostly walk with a little bit of running.

Here's the current music playlist on my phone.

I run during #3, 5, 7.  The selections in between these are meant to be fun and keep me walking.  #1 and 10 I made myself by cutting down other tracks.  It's just warm-up/cool-down filler anyway.  But it works.  In fact, it all works a lot better than I expected.

My sister Amy and I are huge fans of Epic Theatrical Music.  The type of stuff used in movie trailers, huge battlescenes, video game commercials.  She's been feeding me a lot of great tracks lately, so I imagine I'll be able to create some killer playlists to walk/run to.  I'm ready to do more.  I'm not pressing it though.  I'll do what I enjoy.

It helps that I'm writing a novel in which the heroine works for a gaming software company.  I listen to the music and imagine she's at a work meeting to discuss the game their currently developing.  Of course none of this is really in the book.  Because that's boring work.  But it helps to build the fictional world in my mind.  And out of that comes my best writing.  When I'm just sitting around talking about the normal stuff that happens my brain will suddenly throw out something funny or scary to put in a scene.  I won't kid you.  It's kind of creepy sometimes how that happens.  People ask me all the time how I come up with my ideas.  The answer is...I have no effing idea.  It just...happens.  Like I said CREEPY!

So back to the point...I like music.  A lot.  It helps me enjoy other things that I otherwise wouldn't.  Like run.

Bye bye.
